I know the feeling of sometimes wanting a bigger social circle, because the options are so limited due to my particular issues, but generally I've experienced that meeting people online first ensures I don't have too many bad experiences with meeting up IRL. Before we get to that point, I can weed out in people and decide whom I want to put energy into upholding a relation to. For me, that's the perfect middle ground.
